Using checkout questions is an excellent way of gathering much-needed information from your buyers. With Universe, you have the option of selecting from a variety of predefined questions or creating custom questions of your own. Setting up checkout questions is a breeze, and there are many useful applications to help make your event a success. As of today, we’ve added a new, highly-requested checkout question that populates a list of countries in alphabetical order. To learn more skip to #4.

Best Uses

#1: Inventory and vendor management

Make informed decisions about inventory and vendor needs by asking the right questions. No organizer wants to be stuck with cases of unused merchandise or, worse yet, disappoint attendees by not having enough stock to go around.

If your event is food-focused, knowing beforehand which meal options your attendees prefer helps when placing orders with vendors. Also, don’t forget to cover your bases in terms of safety and liability by inquiring about any food allergies that your attendees may have. Choose the “meal” option from the predefined questions or select the customizable short text format option. Reduce waste, save money, and give the people what they want- all at the same time!

Everyone loves getting mementos from an event. When it comes to event swag, such as t-shirts, attendees come in a variety of beautiful shapes and sizes. Account for the variance by letting your attendees choose their size preferences! This can be easily accomplished by selecting the predefined “clothing size” question.

#2: Fine tune your channels and sales strategy

Know where your attendees are coming from — asking how people heard about your event allows you to hone in on the channels that are driving brand engagement and sales.

Are your attendees hearing about your beer festival on Twitter? Increase your brand’s engagement on the platform and perhaps consider trying flash sales or enabling social deals to boost your ticket sales. Are referrals driving attendee purchases? Know who your greatest advocates are and reward them for keeping the recommendations flowing. (There’s a predefined question for referrals, too!) By simply asking, you can determine whether your energy is focused on the most appropriate channels.

#3: Gather more data on your attendees

There are predefined questions pertaining to job title, company name, website, and phone number. Perfect for professional networking events, this information is useful if you plan on printing name badges or more accurately tailoring your messaging based on industry or job function.

Notice a group of people from the same organization? Offer incentives in the form of group discounts to bring more friends and colleagues along to the next event.

#4: Fine-tune your regional communications

In an increasingly global society, it’s essential to understand where your audience is located. Use the predefined “country” question to present attendees with a list of countries, listed in alphabetical order — this question can be applied to all tickets, or designated for certain types. Differences in regional customs and nuances in language and spelling can impact the efficacy of your messaging and the success of your campaigns. Tailor your messaging to get the attention of — and be entirely understood by — each regional audience segment.

Cautionary Tip: Do not bog down your attendees with too many questions. It can be tempting to want to learn everything there is to know about your attendees, but creating unnecessary friction during the checkout process can deter even the most excited attendee from completing a purchase. Keep your questions on a “need to know” basis, and we suggest using the question formats that require the least amount of effort on the part of your attendees (dropdown and checkboxes) whenever possible to keep the purchase flow quick and painless and increase sales.
